By bicycle along the Loire
From Orléans to Versailles
Fantastic castles, beautiful river landscapes, peaceful ancient villages, great wines and delicious food. Then there are the many country and woodland pathways that make the area a genuine cycling paradise…
After loading up our bikes, we drive via Lille and Paris towards Orleans. Here we hop aboard our bikes for the first ride towards Blois. Through the many steep, winding little streets, linked to one another in some places by steps, then onwards among the harmonious old buildings that take you back to the Middle Ages. We discover the first chateau of this trip. The renaissance castle of Blois is the showpiece of the town. Once we arrive in Blois, we ride on to our hotel for an evening meal and our overnight accommodation.
Once again today there’s a lovely cycle ride along the Loire on the programme. We pass through places such as Chaumont, Amboise and others. In lively Amboise we discover the glorious royal castle. Then, after cycling over 60 km, we return to the hotel for our evening meal and overnight stay.
Today we depart on our bikes towards Saumur. A sparkling wine, a giant dolmen and a famous national riding school are just some of the sights enjoyed by Saumur. But the first thing that catches the eye is the castle, perched at the top of a hill, keeping watch over the town. After 75 km we load our bikes back in to the coach and drive back to the hotel.
We take the coach back to Saumur where we continue our bike ride of the previous day. We cycle as far as Angers, the town were the famous Cointreau liqueur first saw the light of day. In the evening we load up our bikes again and drive to our hotel.
The coach takes us first to Versailles. Close to the Chateau de Versailles we unload our bikes and cycle off towards Paris, city of light. A lovely way to end our trip before we head homewards.
