La Douce France
Gastronomic truffle weekend
This trip not only takes you to the fragrances of lavender and pine trees, but also gives you the opportunity to sample the character of gorgeous southern wines, but above all immerses you in the world of the truffle.
We begin our journey by boarding the TGV to Lyon. On arrival, a delicious lunch awaits us. We then get to know the city, which includes a boat cruise on the waters of the Rhône and the Saône. Evening meal and overnight accommodation at the hotel.
After breakfast, we visit 'Les Halles de Lyon'. In addition to the oyster sellers this temple of gastronomic delights includes some of the finest produce you will ever see, such as the renowned Saint-Marcellin cheese from La Mère Richard, fine meats and many other local specialities. After enjoying lunch at your leisure, you still have the time to explore Lyon under your own steam, before taking a local bus that takes us to the next destination. Afterwards, a delicious aperitif and dinner await us with a definite emphasis on truffles.
In the morning, a visit to the 'Marché de Richeranche' is on the programme, which is the largest truffles market in Europe. Truffle-growers, tourists and the curious all congregate on Avenue de la Rabasse and Le Cours du Mistral, where the aroma of these expensive mushrooms fills the air. Once the price for the truffle has been determined, the negotiations can begin...
We then move back to the table for lunch.
In the afternoon, we go off searching for truffles with a well-known truffle-grower and his two wonderful dogs. He shares his passion and knowledge of the black diamond, after which you will have an opportunity to buy truffles in their various forms. We round off the day with a wine-tasting session at the Montine estate, followed by the evening meal.
Our truffle weekend has come to an end. The coach takes us back to Lyon, where we board the train again back to Brussels.
